Pigmentation

Hyperpigmentation refers to areas of uneven skin tone, dark spots, age spots, or freckles caused by excess melanin production. This process can be triggered by internal factors, external influences, or a combination of both. Common triggers include hormonal changes, sun exposure, trauma, skin type, and the natural aging process.

Hyperpigmentation is not limited to the face but it also can appears on other parts of the body like shoulders, neck, décolletage, backs of the hands, and bikini area. It can affect all skin colors, types, and conditions.

Sun exposure can exacerbate any form of hyperpigmentation. To prevent worsening and protect affected areas, daily use of sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is essential.

While we all know the sun’s role in the production of freckles and dark spots, the appearance and cause of pigmentation varies significantly, yet the treatment methods remain similar.

NewSkin recommends a number of treatments including Laser Pigmentation Removal using Candela Medical Grade Lasers, Cosmelan Treatment, Clinical Skin Peels, Skin Needling and DermaFrac to combat the signs of discolouration caused by Pigmentation. Cryotherapy can also be used for some pigmentation spots.
