Isn't IPL and Laser the same thing?
No. They are completely different.
Many people have received hair reduction treatments with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) machines and may have been told its Laser.
What’s the difference between IPL and Laser Hair Removal?
The key difference is the type of “Light” produced.
IPL machines are classified as “Beauty Grade” and produce a Broad spectrum of light which sends an untargeted variety of wavelengths to destroy the hair follicle. As they produce a broad spectrum of light they are not able to target the hair follicle independently of the surrounding tissue which may damage the surrounding skin causing burns or scars.
Medical Grade 4 Lasers operate by producing a single wavelength that is specifically relative to the hair follicle. By doing this, it can safely, precisely and consistently attack the exact region that it is targeting, the hair follicle.
What does this have to do with Hair Removal?
The aim of Hair Removal is to safely destroy the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. To do this safely and effectively a form of light is required that is specific to the hair follicle.
Laser does this more safely and more efficiently than any IPL machine.
IPL may still deliver some hair reduction, however there are greater risks attached and results are less effective.
Operators who falsely claim IPL as Laser
Ensure you confirm with the operator what device they are using and how it works.
Many of our new clients have stated they have had Laser treatments previously, however in our consultations we have learned they have actually had IPL.
